Raise the Roof

In total, Hurricane Florence’s damage to the museum — remediation, moving, conservation of the collection, storage, and estimated rebuild — totals more than $3 million.

That includes the replacement of the badly damaged asphalt shingle roof. Recommendations from all construction specialists, however, strongly recommend a commercial grade metal roof for our building. We agree.

We have had persistent leaks and issues with the previous roof.  A metal roof is the best long-term solution. Our goal is for the museum to never suffer the damage, disruption and heartache of this storm again and we believe our members, supporters and community – including you – will help.

The cost difference between a commercial roof and asphalt shingles is substantial. We need an additional $200,000.

Our hope is to move into the Education Hall for events by July as repairs continue to be made to the Gallery.

In order to help us achieve this target date, our goal is to raise $200,000 in gift and pledges by May 1st to raise the roof. Can we do it? With your help, yes! Will you join us?

With only a few weeks to raise the funds, we ask you to give or make a pledge for the Raise the Roof Campaign today.
