WHAT OTHERS ARE SAYING
If you are near Emerald Isle, Beaufort, Morehead City make the drive to Harker's Island to visit this museum... It is full of interesting exhibits which tell the rich history of the area. The staff is friendly and informative. The island is beautiful with a view of Cape Lookout lighthouse.
Nestled back from the road, this extraordinary museum is a great visit. This was our second visit, and with the changing exhibits and informative continuous run videos, there was more to learn about the area.
"Best in Class!"
The Core Sound Waterfowl Museum is outstanding! Well done, and well worth the trip. The location is quite, serene, and offers hours of inspiration.
“Well worth the drive!!!!”
A visit to this museum/heritage center is a valuable experience. We learned how the Down East communities have worked hard to preserve a way of life and customs and attitudes that have served them well over the many generations they have lived and worked here. The pride shown in their work, their families, their homes, and their community should be a reminder to all of us to pay more attention to the things that are really important!
“Excellent Down East Attraction”
The Museum covers the wonderful heritage of Down East Life. I had the privilege to visit the area and to enjoy the Down East area as a boy. Many, many wonderful memories. I can hear, see, taste and feel those memories in the Core Sound Waterfowl Museum and Heritage Center.
Great History of "Original Down East" + Great Experience for Grandchildren
My grandkids, ages 3 and 7 1/2 LOVE the museum. First we spend time in the "kid's area". There is an excellent book collection, kid friendly toys, including an interactive microscope, full size boat w/cushions and interactive puppet stage and puppets, they always impress me with their impromptu shows! We then hit the walking trail to the duck blind and around Willow Pond! Great history of "Original Down East" for adults and older children. Elevator to top deck with view of lighthouse and surrounding water!! Fortunate to live close by, we visit often!!
This was not only informative, but beautifully presented, the self guided museum feels like a well kept old estate, and the historic displays are very compelling. Wear comfortable shoes, you will likely stay longer than you expected and should not miss the walk around the grounds. I was there in December And a light jacket was a welcome addition, it was a bit Blustery.
The waterfowl festival ia a real treat, this was my third trip for that, but I have visited on other occasions as well, it honestly draws me back whenever I am in the lower 48.
