2005 Federal Junior Duck Stamp Program
and Scholarship Competition

Conservation through the Arts

North Carolina's Junior Duck Stamp Competition

This year's judging was held Thursday, March 24 at the Core Sound Waterfowl Museum on Harker's Island, N.C. The entries will be on display at the Core Sound Waterfowl Museum from March 29 – April 10.

More than 1200 students representing 20 North Carolina schools participated in this year’s competition (See winner’s list attached). The Federal Junior Duck Stamp Conservation Design Program is an integrated art and science curriculum developed to teach environmental science and habitat conservation. The first place national winning design is used to create a Federal Junior Duck Stamp each year. Proceeds from the sale of Junior Duck Stamps (which cost $5) support conservation education by providing awards and scholarships for students, teachers, and schools that participate in the program.

2005 NC State Winner
Jessica Roush, 17
"Two Teal In Flight" from
Leesville Road High School, Raleigh.

The Federal Junior Duck Stamp Conservation and Design Program is an integrated art and science curriculum developed to teach environmental science and habitat conservation. It introduces school age children to an important and fragile part of the natural world. It instills a sense of individual responsibility in the maintenance of our environment. And it benefits waterfowl and their habitats as wall as all migratory birds and hundreds of plants and animals that share wetland habitats.
