Will This
Town Survive?, Mark Fielding Darden, CD + 60 page
book of pictures and stories, $25
An eclectic blend of original songs - somewhere
between The Beatles, Burl Ives, Bob Dylan and Irving Berlin, most
of the music is performed by artists from Salter Path, NC, a small fishing
village on the Outer Banks that was inhabited in the 1800s by a half dozen
families. These songs are about the hard lives and times of the people
as they've struggled through hurricanes, nor'easters and wars. Now a new
threat has come. Many of the townspeople are selling their old trailers
on tiny lots with sandy driveways for huge sums of money in order to move
into new homes on the mainland. After almost 200 years, the town is about
to be gone. Will this town survive? sample
