A Few Weekend Highlights 


Music on Harkers Island, "It's what has held us together." Today the music lives on in the schools, band, chorus and especially in the churches, carrying forward a rich tradition of natural talent. This gathering at the museum will be history ... be there to soak it up and remember what Harkers Island really and truly is. 

Part of the 25th Anniversary Celebration will be the release of the CD -Harkers Island's Music Legend Ivey Scott, an original 1951 recording of "The Booze Yacht Run Ashore" and other songs from the 50s. 

 

 

 

Saturday, June 24th Schedule 

11AM  TRIBUTE TO HARKERS ISLAND MUSIC TRADITIONS
Rodney Kemp, Connie Mason, Wayne Martin and Islanders will talk about music on Harkers Island, from Ivey Scott and the “Booze Yacht” to James Allen Rose including memories from the island school singing in the 60s, Coastal Playboys, & Huckleberry Mudflap. Emily Styron (niece of Ivey Scott) and Allen Rose (son of James Allen) will play a few songs.

Wayne Martin, Director of the NC Arts Council, will present the original recording of Ivey Scott’s music from 1951. (This CD will be available starting that Sat, June 24.)

Just like PBS's Antiques Roadshow, members of the Carolina Decoy Collectors Association will be on hand all day Saturday to identify, assess and help you learn more about your waterfowling treasures. Bring in your old decoys, shell boxes, guns, photos and hunting gear. Who knows — you might have a treasure!

As part of the 25th Anniversary Celebration, Core Sound Museum will host three different types of decoy competitions on Saturday, June 24th. There will be something for everyone interested in waterfowl decoys!
