Vance Garvin’s COMING HOME AGAIN print has been created and will be released as part of the Core Sound Waterfowl Museum & Heritage Center’s Gallery Opening Oct 30 – November 1.
This signed and number montage painting is the second in the series by Vance Garvin who created the first print, COMING HOME, as part of the museum’s Education Hall Opening in 2003. That print, also a release of 150, sold out quickly. This is the second in the series.
The first print featured the faces of Core Sound men, boatbuilder Stacy Guthrie of Harkers Island and decoy carver Homer Fulcher of Stacy with exterior images of the Portsmouth church and lifesaving station, Core Banks Gun Club and the Core Sound Museum at the base. Other images incorporated included a the Cape Lookout Lighthouse, the workboat “Jean Dale,” Irving Fulcher’s redhead decoy and the museum’s signature carving, Mitchell Fulcher’s pintail.
The 2009 release includes many of those same images (Cape Lookout Lighthouse, Jean Dale, Mitchell Fulcher pintail) but this time the faces of Core Sound women. “Miss Lue” Lewis of Davis and “Aunt Tad” Willis of Salter Path tell the story of working women, along with the interior sanctuary of Portsmouth Church, Homer Fulcher’s curlew decoy, the netspreads along Promise Land’s shore and the museum’s gathering room.
Both images reflect Core Sound’s rich cultural history in great detail through the hands of Vance Garvin’s unique style of bringing together images and stories.
Prints sell for $100. Call today to reserve yours.
